So you’re trying to think of a great idea for this year’s Christmas party. The theme of the night is one of the most important decisions when planning your event so I did a little bit of research to find out what the most popular Christmas party themes are this year. From the traditional to something more alternative, the options are endless but I hope you are inspired by this top 10!

1. Winter Wonderland

Aside from being the title of one of the most beloved Christmas songs of all time, Winter Wonder Land also works well as a party theme for the winter season. A Winter Wonderland lets guests revel in all the things that are great about Winter.

2.  Ugly Christmas Sweater

Everyone owns that one ugly Christmas sweater they can’t help but love. With this ugly sweater themed Christmas party, now is your chance to show these off. This tradition never seems to get old. Somehow, by throwing on a tacky circa 1980s Bill Cosby style sweater; people are unable to be too serious, thus improving the chances of everyone having a good time. Win a prize for the ugliest christmas sweater of the party!

3. Christmas Cast-Off Gift Exchange

Re-gifting is the act of handing off one of your previously received unwanted gifts to someone else this may be considered tacky in some circles, but when everyone’s doing it, it can’t be that bad, right? Have all of your friends come over with one of last Christmas’ cast-offs. Play a version of “White Elephant,” where people can pick from the pile or steal someone else’s new acquistion. One person’s trash is another’s recycling!

4. Christmas Carol Karaoke Night

You may not be a fan of unsolicited carolers banging on your door at night, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy an opportunity to bust out Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Either hit up a karaoke bar or invest in a home karaoke set, and rock out to the holiday’s best jams.

5. The Wrap Party

Wrapping gifts may be the single most frustrating activity of the season.  Throw a support-group style gathering for friends where everyone brings some basic supplies and their bundle of gifts to wrap together.

6. Trim my Tree Gathering

From It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street to ElfNational Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and this generation’s classic A Christmas Story, it’ll be hard to pick which flicks have a place in your holiday film fest. Just keep it to less than five to avoid merry movie fatigue.
