So William and I are high school sweethearts, hooked up as a blind prom date through mutual friends. After high school graduation began our 5 year long distance relationship; we went to separate colleges, William attended Adrian College in Michigan and I attended UT Knoxville. On the first day of college William broke up with me and called me back later that night to apologize and he promised me that if we made it through college as a couple, he would propose to me on the day of the my graduation. On May 11, 2013, I graduated with a bachelor of architecture and celebrated in a cabin with my entire family and a few friends. During the celebration, William asked for my hand in marriage…or actually all he said was, “I’m so nervous!” but I knew what he meant. haha!! And did I mention he picked out my gorgeous Vera Wang on his own with a few family members opinion and it was the exact ring I pinned on my ‘private’ Pinterest board.
Once I returned from my engagement-moon/graduation cruise to the Bahamas, I began planning my dream wedding. No money, no job– just a dream. I wrote down everything that I knew I couldn’t afford, like a rooftop or an aquarium wedding, a runway ceremony, a Chanel theme, and I also wrote down ‘Elliott Events’.
After months passed, I gave up on that dream wedding and began to look for a career. I got hired in August, but still couldn’t plan my wedding until my fiance graduated in December ’13. So soon after his graduation, I began attending bridal shows to start wedding planning. During one bridal show, I met Chanail- one of Tiffanie’s brides- in the punch line. She asked if I had a wedding planner and even after telling her, “No, I’m not interested in a wedding planner, I’m on a tight budget,” she still proceeded to boast and brag about her excellent wedding planner that she hired. My mom and I walked over to Tiffanie’s booth for Chanail to introduce us and we loved Tiffanie’s big personality. She made us feel like we had known her for years.
After meeting with her again and seeing her portfolio, I knew I still didn’t want a wedding planner, but having her as a decorator/designer would be perfect. I proposed the Chanel theme on an Emily budget and she said she could do it! Later, I found that notepad where I had jotted wedding plans and realized that I had actually hired Elliott Events to design a ‘Chanel-Runway to Love’ themed wedding at Aerial Rooftop. My dreams had come true- God truly blessed us because that notebook was all a fantasy.
On our wedding day, I’m really excited to see everything come together. I hope it’s everything I dreamed of plus more. Most importantly, I cannot wait to become Mrs. William Carter and to see the look on his face when I walk down the aisle. I just hope that everyone enjoys themselves as they witness our covenant before God.
